FajrBuddy
FajrBuddy is an alarm that helps you wake for Fajr. This page explains exactly what it stores, where it lives, and what we never do with it.
Most of what FajrBuddy knows about you never reaches us. Your location is one of those things — the app works out your prayer times on the device itself, and your coordinates are never sent to our servers.
What does reach our server is the small amount needed to restore your account and your streak if you change phone: your email, how you signed in, your buddy's name, and which mornings you prayed.
We do use one analytics tool, PostHog, to see which parts of the app people actually use — a paywall shown, an alarm snoozed, a streak broken. It never receives your name, your email, your city or your prayer times. There is no advertising in FajrBuddy, no ad networks, and nothing is sold or shared with data brokers.
Everything the app holds, and where it lives. On device means it stays in the app on your phone and is never transmitted to us.
| What | Where | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Email address and sign-in method (Apple, Google or email) | Server | To sign you in and let you recover your account on a new phone |
| Your answers to the three onboarding questions — your goal, how often you currently pray Fajr, and what you find hardest | Server | To tailor the app to you, and to understand in aggregate what people struggle with |
| Your buddy's name and appearance | Server | So your buddy comes back with your account |
| Which mornings you prayed Fajr, whether you completed wudu, and the mood you picked | Server | Your streak and history, restored if you reinstall |
| Your city, coordinates and time zone | On device | To calculate your prayer times locally |
| Prayer calculation method and madhab | On device | To match the times your mosque uses |
| Alarm settings — alarm time before or after Fajr, shake to wake, reliable wake mode | On device | To ring your alarm the way you set it |
| Sleep sound choice, length and volume | On device | To play the sound you chose at night |
| Which features you use — screens reached in setup, subscription taken, alarm snoozed, streak made or broken | Analytics | To see what works and what doesn't, so the app gets better at the one thing it's for |
| Your buddy's XP and growth stage, and your nightly goals | On device | To show your progress |
You can see all of this for yourself at any time. Settings → Download my data produces a file containing everything above, from both your device and our server.
FajrBuddy asks for your location once, when you set up your city, and only while you are using the app. It uses it to work out which city you are in so it can calculate accurate prayer times.
One thing does happen off the device, and you should know about it: to turn that coordinate into a place name, your phone asks Apple's mapping service. That request goes to Apple, not to us, and nothing about it is kept afterwards. On Android, the same lookup is made by your phone's built-in geocoder, which is provided by Google; that request goes to Google, not to us.
Beyond that, your coordinates stay on your phone. We never receive them, they appear in none of our records, and your prayer times are worked out on the device itself. We do not track your movements, and there is no background location access.
You can skip the permission entirely and search for your city by name instead. Either way, you can change or clear it in Settings.
You can sign in with Apple, with Google, or with an email address and password. On Android you can sign in with Google or with an email address; Sign in with Apple is iPhone only.
If you use Sign in with Apple, Apple lets you hide your real email address; FajrBuddy only ever sees the relay address, which works exactly the same for us.
We never see your password. Authentication is handled by Supabase, our database and authentication provider, and passwords are stored there as salted hashes.
Our database uses row-level security, which means each row is readable only by the account that owns it — enforced by the database itself, not just by the app.
Every notification FajrBuddy sends is scheduled and delivered on your device. Your prayer times, your streak and your buddy's name never pass through a server to reach you, and we do not use a push notification service.
That covers your Fajr alarm, the warnings that tell you the alarm won't ring (iPhone only), the bedtime reminder, the morning check-in from your buddy, and the reminder that your free trial is ending.
The bedtime reminder, the morning check-in and the come-back nudge can each be switched off in Settings → Notifications.
FajrBuddy is a paid subscription with a free trial. All payments are handled by Apple through the App Store on iPhone, or by Google through Google Play on Android.
We never see your card details. We do not receive your name, billing address or payment method.
Subscription status is managed by RevenueCat, which receives your account identifier and the store's purchase receipt so it can confirm whether your subscription is active, on both iPhone and Android. It never receives your card details.
Managing, changing and cancelling your subscription is done through your Apple account or your Google Play account, and Apple's and Google's own privacy policies cover everything on their side.
FajrBuddy relies on these companies, and no others:
Each of these receives only what it needs to do its job. None of them are given your data for their own marketing.
PostHog is set up deliberately narrowly: session recording is off, and so is the automatic capture of every screen and tap that analytics tools usually switch on by default. It only ever receives the specific actions we have chosen to send.
Both of these are in the app, and neither requires you to email anyone or wait for a reply:
Settings → Download my data. Protected by Face ID, your fingerprint, or your phone's passcode, it produces a readable file of everything held for your account — from your phone and from our server.
Settings → Delete Account. This permanently removes your account and everything attached to it: your profile, your buddy and your full prayer history. It cannot be undone. No longer have the app? You can also ask us to delete your account at fajrup.app/delete-account.
If you are in the UK or the EU, you also have rights under the UK GDPR and the GDPR — to access, correct, export, restrict or erase your data, and to complain to your data protection authority. In the UK that is the Information Commissioner's Office. To exercise any of these, or if either button above does not work for you, contact us at hello@fajrup.app.
We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, it is removed from our database rather than archived.
Data held on your device is removed when you delete the app.
FajrBuddy is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect or who sees it, we will update the date at the top of this page and tell you in the app before the change takes effect.
FajrBuddy is operated by Rajib Moazzam. Questions about this policy, or about your data, go to hello@fajrup.app.
